My reasons for participating:
Hello, firstly, I would like to say thank you for viewing this website & being interested in our rather long fund raising cycle. If you have read the personal stories about Mary Hall... My motivations for this event should be very clear; Mary was my mumand at no point did I, nor my family, ever expect to lose her so early in life. Apart from creating awareness about meningitis and encephalitis, I wanted to find a way to give something back to all those in the research & medical profession who's knowledge & support came to us in our time of need. |

My reasons for participating:
My reasons for cycling 1000 miles are (with a little persuasion from my mad husband!) an exciting yet daunting challenge that will be once in a lifetime! Turning the big 30 and doing something crazy to celebrate (also to keep the wobbly bits at bay!!) and raising big money for a charity close to my heart. When I reach the end with much aching and pain it will be a great triumph and I am sure Mary will be cheering us on all the way. And, finally, as I am the only girl cycling, I will be showing the boys how it should be done!! |

My reasons for participating:
My son - Nicholas Marriage... Meningitis caused Nicko to be very ill in Hospital. Looking at him in his cot with tubes and wires attached I desperately wanted to help him. I could not do anything medically BUT what I could do was get off my backside and raise some money to fight the disease and raise awareness - all I needed was an event - and to raise lots of money I needed a BIG event (lots of people do a marathon and I find running a bit dull). Cycling 1,000 miles the length of the British Isles fitted the bill, and
to get the most out of it I also needed a team - I spoke to Ollie, James & Georgie and a plan was born.
To think Nicko could have been taken from us is unbearable, but Meningitis is a fatal disease and babies/people do die - by raising a substantial amount of money we can make a difference and put something back for all those that have helped Alex, Nicholas and I through some difficult times. Please read our personal stories to understand more. |

Road Test Editor for Auto Express Magazine
Mountain biking (not sure about this roadie lark), skiing, mucking around with my kids |
My reasons for participating:
Tom and I are part of a very close knit family, so although I can't possibly know exactly what he's gone through with Nicko, seeing my brother and his wife in hospital worried sick about their newborn son was very upsetting. The fact that we're also rather competitive with each other meant there wasn't a chance I was going to let Tom undertake this challenge alone.
Our amazing crew of helpers & fundraisers! |

Teacher & mum
Keeping fit (in as many ways as I can!) art, travel and entertaining small people with varying success |
My reasons for helping & fundraising:
I am Nicholas' mum and after every training ride/session I am the one who washes Toms kit and feeds him healthy meals!!! Throughout the events of Nicholas's illness I found the support and time dedicated to his treatment amazing. I may not be cycling all the way, however I am planning other smaller fund raising events as well as traveling with Nicholas to certain points along the route. I couldn't imagine a better way of saying thank you and helping other people who go through similar situations as Mary and Nicholas. |

My reasons for helping & fundraising:
My reasons for helping: Ollie and I have been fortunate enough to have two healthy children, so wanted to help Tom and Alex out in any way we could. Chaperoning the cyclists means I'm doing my bit to support a great effort and also means Sasha and Luke will have a great adventure, living in a camper van for two weeks! |

My reasons for helping& fundraising:
Being the “Oldie” of the team; I wanted to help my children & their friends raise as much money as possible for Meningitis, and also to raise awareness of the risk to all new born babies in contracting Meningitis at birth. The Marriages are a close family and it is so nice to be asked to help by one’s sons. Please support us if you can and thank you for taking the time to read this. |
